Manchester Police have arrested a 31-year-old English Premier League footballer for questioning on suspicion of sexually abusing a child.
The BBC reports that although the player is currently out on bail, the BBC has not released the name of the club or the player.
Everton fired one of their own players on Tuesday under police investigation. In a statement posted on its website, the club promised to expel the player as well as assist Manchester Police in the investigation. However, Everton did not reveal the name of the player who was expelled.
Everton’s expelled player is thought to have been arrested and questioned by British police on Friday on suspicion of child sexual abuse. Everton said in a statement: “The club will continue to assist the appropriate authorities in the police investigation. There will be no further comment at this time. ”
